BREAKING AND ENTERING CHARGE.

PALMERSTON N. December 14. A charge of breaking and entering (lie premises ml .lames ( larke Christa tobacconist of Rangitiki St. and stdal mg therefrom a safe containing cheques to 1 lie total value of sixty pounds, was preferred against .lohn. McGill, alias Pat -McGill, at the Police Court this morning. The accused, twenty years ago was described as a labourer canvasser. Lengthy evidence is being beard. The case is expected to last well into the afternoon, when fin ger print evidence, on which the easels said to hinge, is to he called.
HEAVY RAIN AT GISBORNE
GISBORNE. Dec. 15
Unseasonable weather is delating shearing on the East Coast. A heave thunderstorm was experienced and 5.51 inches of rain fell in Gisborne during the past five days. 3.38 being registered in (be last 21 hours. The rivers are running high but no damage is reported.
