THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
The Political outlook
By the accident of circumstances Sir Joseph Ward is being offered the opportunity to submit to Parliament the programme which appealed to «a minority of the electors. His own practical sagacity should satisfy him, however, that his programme should now Ik- pruned and modified in such a way and to such an extent as will admit of its being accepted by a Parliament which is, as to two-thirds of its composition, opposed to the details if not to the actual principle, of his policy If. as we assume, the opponents of the United Government are prepared to extend a generous measure of co-operation to it, there should .be a reciprocal recognition by the Government of the claims of the Opposition to consideration. The country has entered upon a highly interesting phase of its political history. —Otago Daily Times.
