TAUMARUXUI, Dec. 13

■When two hoys, Noel Somerv.ille and James Grattan were engaged lighting a fire in a room at the rear of an office in Miriaina Street last night, a slight explosion occurred through the use of benzine. Grattan’s clothes caught fire and lie was severely burned on the back and left side and arm. He was hospital loti.

McNeill, barrister, of Hastings, has been appointed to the Bench, and will occupy the position ol Junior Magistrate at Wellington, taking up duties almost immediately. CHARGED WITH FRAUD. AUCKLAND, Dec. 13. Edward John Samuel, a middle aged commission agent, was charged on eighteen counts of obtaining credit by fraud. The amount involved exceeds £2,000. N.Z. TRADE. WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. For a period of eleven months ended November 1928, New Zealand imports totalled £41,463,657 and exports £51,805,163, compared with £40,833,748 and £43,097,870 respectively for the corresponding period of 1927. Imports during (November' 1928 amounted to £4,748,874 and exports £3,359,533, compared with £3,561,474 and £2,837,875 in November last year. DUAL VOTING. WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. After having voted as an absentee at one booth on. election day, Alfred Grisdale went to Kelburn. and recorded an ordinary vote at a booth there. When seen by the police his excuse was that he was advised by friends that lie must voto at Kelburn. He acted under a misunderstanding. He had not voted in Now Zealand before. The Returning Officer said he had no reason to doubt the accused’s explanation. Accused was committed for sentence, on bail.
