The programme by the Renowned Revellers at the Princess T heatre, from all accounts promises to he a boii(|Uet of novelties. There are several sketches and pleasant scenes, interspersed with bright musical numbers. The grouping of the chorus is going to he heightened by the dressing, for which the young Indie are going to he at considerable pains to ensure pleasing stage picture. The musical portion of the entertainment will be cnbaneed by the Hlack Hand Orchestra in full strength, which will render a special programme of tpopwhir numbers. The evening’s proceedings will he rounded off by the Revue “Fire” specially written by Miss Anne Duff, the producer.

Air \Y. T. Morpeth, Chief Commissioner ol ( rown Lands, who went, south last evening by s.s. Gael, will stop over at; Rruce Bay for the purpose of looking into settlement possibilities in the Rlackwater country south of the .Maintain. Home years ago a settlement scheme was promulgated by Air .Massey, apparently under the advice of Commissioner Hazard, but it was droppod without, being advanced to any extent. Now that the Great South road is being taken in band seriously, there will be a move for more settlement along the route, and the Rlackwater proposition may come to something. An investigation and report-on the possibilities will certainly be helpful. Air .Morpeth will spend a few days in the locality and Inter return overland.

The entries for the Westland Racing Club’s Christmas meeting appear in this issue. The list is nu! as sulilanlial as that of last year, but is of good <|imlity. Kntrants are nominated from Canterbury. Trent,lmm and Auckland stables, with a good string, of Coast owned horses. There should he satisfactory fields all through the meeting. The number of events each day is limited to seven, which will assist in strengthening the number of starters for each event. Mr George Reed, of Riceartou. who has been highly recommended, has been appointed starter for the meeting. The Westland Cup. a very handsome trophy presented by Mr R. Adamson, is now on view at Mr A. Sir Joseph "Ward prefaced his speech in the House of Representatives on Thursday with a- jocular reference to his ago. He said he was horn at the time of the Rattle of Cullodcn, and in ease anyone misrepresented liis age he wished to say he was in his 17(>th year. To those who had been making representations spoilt his age, he hoped they would go on believing what lie said, and that that would he for another 170 years. He would not have mentioned the matter but for the fact that Mr llawken had said he was too old. He, however, had told Air Hawken that he was too young.
A fairly good ambergris season is reported by Air Adam Adamson, of Stewart Island. He estimates that lie lias gathered about £l3O worth since August. At present he is clearing out the wreckage from a big creejc which catches the anVhorgis and retains it among the timber, making it difficult to gel at. The wreckage, is mostly from the barque Emile, wliieli was wrecked many years ago. At the bottom of the timber lie came across the keel and keelson of the ship and n*t this is about oft across and 4ft in depth, Air Adamson will use gelignite to remove it. He states that the gale and high tide last month were tho biggest for Hi years and a great cjuiantity of debris came ashore.

(Mr Coates), in regard to the Cl i r istcl i n rch-Ly ttel ton electrification, says that the electric service will be running on this section by the end of January, 1920. thus removing a long-standing discomfort to the travelling public on this important line. All the indications are that the expenditure will be well within the estimate. A comprehensive investigation is now in hand for the electrification of the Wellington and Auckland suburban areas, and in view of the provision of new terminal stations at these two centres, lie is satisfied that serious consideration must lie given to the proposals arjbmitted by the experts.
