A SUDDEN DEATH. (Australian Press Association). (United Service). SYDNEY, December 7. Alfred Shackel, a well known member of many charitable committees, presiding over a meeting of combined Jewish philanthropic societies had just announced the conclusion of the business. “This finishes our meeting,” he said, and falling back collapsed in his chair and died. ARRESTS MADE. MELBOURNE, December 7. A party off police under the supervision of Detective Dunn, who lias been in charge of the bomb outrages investigations, arrested five men, who were remanded on vagrancy charges until further enquiries were made. ABORIGIN A L KILLED. PERTH, December 7. During a fight between natives lubra at Port George, one was killed by being struck on the head with a club. The other natives concerned in the light decamped.
A PETITION. AGATNST DEATH SENTENCE. (Received this dav at 11 a.in.) SYDNEY, Doc. 7. Over three hundred residents ot Way have signed a petition asking that the death sentence passed on Martin Jacobsen, for a capital offence on a girl he reviewed. Public indignation has been aroused over the sentence. Jacobsen was formerly engaged to a girl who was among the first to sign the petition. Public meetings are being held in the town and feeling is high. It is stated new evidence would be available if the case was reopened.
