LICENSING ACT.

The police charged a prohibited person with procuring liqour and being on licensed premises (Dominion Hotel) and (Red Lion Hotel). Mr Murdoch for defendant. Convicted and ordered to pay 10s costs in each of the three charges.

Another prohibited person charged with procuring liquor was fined 20s and costs 17s.

On a charge of being unlawfully on licensed premises (Dunedin Hotel) nr offender was ordered to pay costs 10s. Three young men similarly charged (Club Hotel) were convicted and ordered to pay costs, IDs each.

Three similar offenders (Occident 1 ! 1 Hotel) were convicted and ordered to pay costs lOs each. Costs Cl Is were allowed plaintiff's counsel in a maintenance ease in which the amount was paid into Court.

DEFENDED CHARGE

Police charged Stanley Graham with unlawfully serving liquor at Longford Hotel on election day, and three men with procuring liquor during the same time, and the licensee (E. AA'ehsten with exposing and keeping open.

Constable Drummond gave evidence that on election day at 2.22 p.m. lie visited Longford Hotel and lound five men in and Stanley Graham behind the bar. The' licensee was not present. Three of the men acknowledged having been supplied with drinks. Graham said lie did not know hotels should he closed on election day.

S. Graham gave evidence that he sold no liquor to anyone that a Iternoon. He invited Brown and Barlthrop in to have a drink. His AA'orsliip said it was not lawful to sell intoxicating liquor during election afternoon. There was no proof of sale. This was not ail ordinary charge of keeping open alter hours. The charges would he dismissed. DEBT CASES. Commissioner of Taxes v. AA . M. Routhan, claim 69 2s f>d. Judgment ifor plaintiff with costs 17s. Inspector of Awards (A. D. Sncdden) v. Hamilton and Co. Ltd. (Mr Murdoch). A charge of failure to pay wages claims on due date. Tt va*| stated the wages had been since paid to date. Judgment for Cl and costs 20s 4d.
