THOMAS MEI’GI]AX TO-NIGHT

Blending the gentlemanly aggressiveness of Gene Tuniiey and the spectacular showmanship of Paul Whiteman, Vincent Lopez and Jsham Jones into a single characterisation for a picture, is the difficult feat performed by Thomas Meighan in his new Paramount production “ We’re All Gamblers,” which opens to-night at the Princess Theatre. Only a man familiar with the drama behind the struggle ifor success in the .Metropolis could do it. During the years of his stage success and his subsequent rise in pictures, Mr Meighan has probably known intimately practically all the celebrities of that city. 1 1 .. the early scenes of “ We’re Al! Gamblers,” which was adapted by Hope Loring from Sidney Howard’s stage play ‘‘Lucky Sam MeCarver,” the Paramount star portrays a proles sional fighter on the eve of a championship fight. His unusually fine physique made this easy. Later in the story hr becomes the proprietor of a successful night club. This required an entirely different technique. That he does ; remarkably fine impersonation has been testified to by the privileged few who have already seen the picture. Playing opposite the star is Marietta Millner. a. Viennese beauty, who went to America a few months ago, and has appeared in only one picture there. “ Drums of the Desert,” although she had a very successful career in Europe, dames Cruzc, maker of ‘‘ The Covered Waggon” and ‘‘Old Ironsides.” directed.

A topical, scenic, and comedy completes the display to-night. On Wednesday Dolores- Costello in “ The Third Degree.”
