The final ceremony for confirmation of the new Primate was held in Dick Whittington's Church, Bow Church, Cheapside. before a Court of seven bishops presided oved by the Bishop of London. In (the presence of the , Lord Mayor and Aldermen, Or Lang took the oath of allegiance. The Court then considered objections Lorn the Protestant Alliance and several clergy, also J. Kensit, Abrst of the •' clergy complained that Dr Lang tolerated Romish practices and approved of the use of the 11)28 Prayer Book, despite its parliamentary rejection. Another said Dr Lang was unsympathetic towards the principles of the Reformation and encouraged mediaevae! usages and doctrines. When the objections wore hoard, Bishop Ingram announced the Court would proceed with the confirmation, as no legitimate objections were centred. LONDON, December 1. The Primates Court held that tho objections were irrelevant, as they only questioned Dr. C. G. Lang’s fitness ifor office. Dr. Lang took the oath of allegiance to the King kneeling. He then stood up, and pronounced the declaration against Simony, and his assent to the Thirty-Nine Articles, the Book of Common Prayer, and the Church’s doctrines. He then signed them, using his official title “ Cosmo, Cantuar,” for the first time. Thereafter, Dr. Ingram. Bishop of London, formally inaugurated the primate. by announcing that the Court had confirmed his election. He said Archbishop Lang became St. Augustine’s ninety-seventh successor. The Primate held up the Canterbury Cross in Ids left hand, faced the congregation, and pronounced his blessing. Mr Kensit, one of the objectors, after the •ceremony, distributed “No Popery ” pamphlets in the street, but in view df the annoyance thereby given to the recipients, the police intervened.
