GHASTLY CRIME
WOMAN SLASHED TO DEATH
SON’S TMIIOAT GASHED

MELBOURNE, November 30
Mrs D. I regard was slashed to death in a block of flats in East .Melbourne, this morning. Her throat was cut. and there were also deep gashes on her chest.
Thomas Bacon is in the hospital with a deep gash in his throat, and a badly cut wrist. Ho was the woman’s son, and made a valiant attempt to save his mother.
Tin* (load woman’s name was Ledger. She was about 38, and was good looking, and she occupied a flat with her son, a college hoy, Thomas Bacon, who heard his mother scream, and rushed into the room and saw a man killing his mother. The boy seized the man’s head, pushed it hack, and thrust a linger down his throat, but was unable to prevent him achieving his purpose. The boy rushed for his pea rifle, but unl'ortuately was unable to find cartridges. The boy was discovered inside. His wounds are not likely to prove 'fatal. The motive of the crime is a mystery.
