Fears of the stability of the whole vino- of the Vatican wherein the Pope has liis private and official apartments, was felt when the floor-of two large rooms on the ground floor suddenly collapsed. The rooms were formerly part of the quarters of the Palatine guard, but fortunately wore muneutarilv unoccupied. Kngineers found the collapse due to the failure ol railed ceilings in the cellars which bad been carelessly built originally and suffered much for three centuries. • laro-e masonry pillar was recently built in "the ceittre of the vault but it proved insufficient to prevent the accident. ALARM FOR safety. (Received this day at 12.25. P-in.) ROME, Nov. 28. The Vatican authorities are alarmed at the situation created by the collapsc of two floors in the quarters occupied by the Papal guards. Engineers and architects, following an examination, found it necessary to immediately strengthen the foundations of the Palace itself, as ominous cracks were discovered in other parts.
