SIR A. NGATA’S VIEWS
GISBORNE, Nov. 22
The opinion tlmt Sir Joseph Ward’s health would prevent him carrying out tlie duties of Prime Minister was expressed to-day by Sir A. Ngata, United member for Pastern Maori, and probably a Ministerialist in the United Cabinet. Sir Apirana considered Mr Masters (Chairman of the United Party) not now in Parliament, would have made the best Liberal Premier, a.ml thought in the event of Sir Joseph Ward preferring a lighter office that the leadership would he offered to Mr Ransom or Mr Forbes. Sir Apirana also stated that despite Unitmi memliers criticism of the Taupo railway, lie thought the new Government would proceed with the project. People who criticised the work knew nothing about the district. Under scientific treatment. Taupo pumice lands had a. great future. He had seen the poorest pumice lands converted into green pastures and was confident that Taupo would prove a good investment.
A CONTRADICTION. BY SIR A. NGATA. WELLINGTON. Nov. 22. A copy of the message from Gisborne giving an interview with Sir A. Ngata in reference to the premiership was shown Sir A. Ngata on his arrival at 'Wellington to-day. He gave a flat contradiction to the message and said he had never made such a statement. POSSIBLE PETITION. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 22. ' Although no action has yet been decided on, there is a possibility that a petition may be lodged against the election of Kyle for Riccarton on the grounds that certain voters were wrongly enrolled in Riccarton electorate. McLachlan’s committee is considering the matter.
