To tile House of Commons, Sir Thomas Inskip moved the appointment of two additional members to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council at a. salary of CIUOO, and a pension of £IOO9. and an additional Judge to the Appeal Court at a salary of £(>000 and a pension of £8750 He pointed out that Lord Haldane shortened, his life through overwork on the Judicial Committee. Mr Slessei" asked would Lord Birkenhead claim from the Lord Chancellor n pension of £5009 seeing that he did not propose to serve on the Judicial Committee.

Sir Thomas Inskip replied that Lord Birkenhead informed him ho would shortly undertake his new employment at substantial emoluments. Ho proposed to claim his pension only for the transition period. Nevertheless Lord Birkenhead’s view wa.s that his pension was for the past and not present legal services. Rt. Hon. I lamar Greenwood said (he Judicial Committee was tlm strongest link of the Umpire, which needed to he strengthened.
