To tile House of Commons, Sir Thomas Inskip moved the appointment of two additional members to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council at a. salary of CIUOO, and a pension of £IOO9. and an additional Judge to the Appeal Court at a salary of £(>000 and a pension of £8750 He pointed out that Lord Haldane shortened, his life through overwork on the Judicial Committee. Mr Slessei" asked would Lord Birkenhead claim from the Lord Chancellor n pension of £5009 seeing that he did not propose to serve on the Judicial Committee.
Sir Thomas Inskip replied that Lord Birkenhead informed him ho would shortly undertake his new employment at substantial emoluments. Ho proposed to claim his pension only for the transition period. Nevertheless Lord Birkenhead’s view wa.s that his pension was for the past and not present legal services. Rt. Hon. I lamar Greenwood said (he Judicial Committee was tlm strongest link of the Umpire, which needed to he strengthened. Tin 1 Canadian view was that we ought not to depend on aged jurists, who. however eminent in their prime, no longer impressed litigants or counsel from the Dominions and Colonies.
Air Wodgeworth Bonn asked; “How manv directorships Lord Birkenhead would need before relinquishing his pension? Could lie reclaim his pension if commercial ventures came to nothingr”

Li answer to questions, Air Locker I.amps m said the government was consulting the dominions on the question of the proposed Anglo-American Arbitration Treaty. The basis of the discussions was that the Treaty would ■follow in a form recommended by the Imperial Conference of 1926. The Posmaster-Oeneral informed Air Pilcher that since oth September, 1097. beam services revenue was £440.000 or £flG6,ooo net after meeting charges and interest.
