SUIT AGAINST DENTISTS
OVER CUTTING OK ARTERIES

H. W. Frost. Ltd., dentists, to-day successfully defended a suit tor £l2l brought by a client, Mrs Janet Hvinborn, on the ground of alleged negligence in an operation. Frost’s employee, J. 0. Kirkland, liad cut loose flesh from the gum, preparatory to fitting a new denture, but punctured two small arteries. A surgeon was called in to stop the flow ol blood, and lie inserted a stitch. The gum adhered to the cheek, and the patient had a long period without teeth, dheii there was a second operation lor the adhesion. For the defence, Kirkland stated today that he had advised the immediate insertion, of the denture to prevent adhesion.
Two prominent Auckland dentists supported the defendant’s claim that this procedure was correct. The Magistrate, Mr Wilson, said that he found no proof of negligence in the nature of the operation, the manner of the performance, or the after-treatment. He gave judgment (for the defence, with costs.
