DOMINION ITEMS.

RATL WAYAIEX’S WAGES. (By Telegraph—Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, Nov IG. Representations were recently made to Air Coates and Mr Sterling, by S. Schofield (vice-president) and L. AlcUvride • (general secretary) of the A.S.R.S. for a shilling a day rise for railwaymen. The request was rejected, but later it was announced that senior guards and signalmen in big boxes are io receive an increase of-four shillings per week, and sub-class 10, gangers, maintenance storemen and a number of tablet porters, are to get increased rates. The rises are to date from the first period in last September. WOOL SALES. AVELLINGTON, November 16. The first wool sale of the Dominion series opened at the Town Hall to a large bench of buyers. Owing to somewhat wet weather the catalogues were somewhat smaller than usivd, there being 7723 bales against 0100. Considering the present state of trade in overseas consuming countries, the results came as rather a surprise, not only to the brokers but also to the buyers, competition being keen for all grades. There was ail exceptionally keen demand for hoggets wools lor preparing length, also hogget 48 to 50 quality, suitable for English trade. This was most strongly competed for and at times was noticeable. French orders were in the market. American competition was lacking, no parcels ol any weight being bought for the States. Medium crossbreds of topmaking stylo, sold well, English trade buying far tho largest quantity. The competition of half breds can be reported as fairly sound. NTJRSE DISMISSED. AN indiscreet LETTER.
