WELLINGTON. November 13,

AI i s Young (Independent Labour candidate for Wellington Central) called on the .Mayor this morning and advised him she proposed to donate half the proceeds of her meeting at the Town Hall last night, the building being packed at two shillings and one shilling per head, to Wellington charities to be nominated by him. The -Mayor has agreed to nominate charities with Mrs Young’s wishes. 'The amount to be made available is understood to be in the vicinity of £IOO.

CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 13

According to a judgment by Judge Adams, Waimairi County Council is not empowered to refuse a {permit for the erection of a shop in a residential suburb under Section 31 of the Town Planning Act. The Judge held that town planning schemes were strictly related to the development c cities and boroughs and that the Act distinguished between town and regional planning.

BOY GANG ARRESTS

AUCKLAND, Nov. 12

The Children’s Court will be kept busy for the next few weekly sittings because of a big round up of about twenty boys. No less than charges, ranging from mischief to breaking, entering and theft and conversion of motor ears are prefened against this juvenile gang, which for months has given the police an anxious time. Tt is now believed that many burglaries in Mt. Eden districts for several months will be cleared up.

CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 13

A time honoured ceremony was revived in Hie Supreme Court, Christchurch, to-day, after more than fifty years. This was a presentation to Judge Adams of a pair of white gloves in view of the fact that there was not <o single case on the criminal list.

Judge Adams replying to the Sheriff sa id:—“l am not quite prepared to say it indicates a sudden and violent conversion on the part of the whole community, but at least it is very gratifying.”

DEATH AFTER FIT. DUNEDIN. November 13. When Robert Murdoch, aged 13, was charged with drunkenness in the Police Court yesterday be was remanded for seven days for medical treatment. Last night lie bad what a constable thought was a. fit. and when a doctor arrived .Murdoch was dead.

COMPENSATION GRANTED. NAPIER, Nov. 13,

In the Supreme Court, the case of Jean Cowan v. The King, arising out of an accident between the Government railway bus and lorry, in which petitioner was travelling, the full claim of C 286 Ms fid was granted. The claim was a sequel to a collision on Waitangi Bridge last year when pupils of the Technical College were returning from their annual picnic, the petitioner’s arm being seriously injured.
