CHINESE BIRTHDAY
(Received this day at 11.25. a.m.) PEKING, Nov. 12.
The anniversary ol Sun Aat Sen s birthday which was recently added to tlm rapidly growing list of Chinese national holidays, was celebrated with a. display of official enthusiasm here to-day, when tho city was decked with Kuomintang colours and a croud of about six thousand attended an open air meeting at which inspiring speeches were made by Kuomintang leaders. Despite strenuous efforts ol Kuomintang propaganda experts, no great amount of popular fervour was noticeable for which 'the prevailing business depression and unusually cold weather were probably jointly responsible. Thousands who heretofore lived fairly comfortably have been reduced almost to pauperism as a result of the transfer of the capital to Nanking, and they arc now largely preoccupied with the problem of scraping somehow through what threatens to ho an exceedingly hard winter for the bulk of the population.
