The Treasury Department lias disclosed that increased prosperity for 1927 was brought about by the filling of tax returns - -of an income greater than a bullion dollars for that year, by fifty-two more persons than in 1926, raising the total of sueli incomes to 2883. The nation’s taxable earnings increased 4.67 per cent, t0.22,673,317,907 dollars upon which tax or 826,246,497 dollars' was paid. Reports were filed by 4,122,242 persons of

whom 2,464,168 were taxable. len persons filed reports of incomes of five millions and over.
