MRS YOUNG SUED

(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, Nov. G

Mrs T. Young, the lady standing a.a Parliamentary candidate for Wellington Central, was to-day the defendant in a civil action, brought by the Singer Sewing Machine Company, in respect to a machine that was sold to the defendant, on time payment, in 1 1924, and in which the sum of £8 10s is alleged to be still due.

The plaintiffs say that the machine was bought by defendant on terms in 1923 at £23. It was exchanged for a machine at £37. For the defence, it is contended that the sum was £27.

There is also a suggestion by the defence that a deposit of £5 was paid oy the agent who made the deal, but this is denied emphatically. The agent says that if Airs Young says that, she would be committing perjury. There is also a suggestion that there was misrepresentation as to the machine being a hemstitching one. This is also denied. A hemstitching attachment was supplied later. The case is proceeding. WELLINGTON, Nov. 7. ‘‘l think she must be mistaken when she says the price she bought the machine at was £27 not £37.” said Air Page, S.M., giving judgment yesterday for plaintiff in the case in which the Singer Sew.jng Machine Coy. claimed £8 10s from Airs Young, the lady candidate for Wellington Central. Defendant giving evidence said she got a second machine because she was not satisfied with the first one, and paid £4 extra, understanding that she paid the difference between the prices.
