MOTOR CYCLISTS COLLIDE.

CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. (5
When their machines met at the intersection of Barbadoes and Gloucester Streets - last evening, two motor cyclists were injured. They were Alford Gordon Wright, 23, of .Marshland Road, and .Jack Coventry, aged 20, of Spreydon. Wright who was more seriously injured, had his left arm broken, abrasions to the face and concussion. He was unconscious when admitted to the hospital but later recovered. Coventry who was also unconscious has an injury to the head. His condition is not serious.

In a reserved judgment to-day. Mr Page, S.AL, held that Arndts, Ltd., by keeping open an automatic cigarette vending machine outside their doors failed to close their shop at one p.m. on Saturday half-holiday. Penalty was deferred for a week to allow the decision to be considered, with a view to an appeal. VIADUCT DAMAGED. TRAINS HELD UP. DANNEVIRKE, November 0. Railway traffic in southern Hawke’s Bay is completely dislocated to-day, owing to portion of the approach to Makotutu railway viaduct, a few chains ifrom the railway station, being burned early this morning. No trains are able to pass over the bridge, necessitating the transhipment of passengers who were conveyed between Ormondsville and Alakotuku by motor car. Twenty-five sleepers of the approach were destroyed. The understructure also was badly damaged. Repair work is in progress and the line may be open for traffic to-morrow. Jf is thought a spark from a train caused the fire.
PALMERSTON N., Nov. 6
Advice has been received at Palmerston North that last evening the railway bridge at Alakotuku near Dannevirke was badly damaged by fire. The railway service between Hawke's Bay and Palmerston North is partially interrupted. The south bound Napier express ran into Ormondville and north hound to Dannevirkc, where passengers and mail were transhipped. INQUEST VERDICT. WANGANUI, Nov. 0. An inquest concerning the death of William Walter Bramwell, a well known dentist, who was found dead in a chair in a surgery on October 31st by his partner, a verdict that death was due to misadventure was returned. Medical evidence was given that he frequently experimented with various anaesthetics in propaiing theories for D.D.’s examination. He had made an appointment that evening to go to a concert with his partner. After the latter had finished the meeting he surmised he was experimenting with nitrous oxide and oxygen, when the latter cylinder gn\e out and getting a whiff of the nitrous oxide rendered him helpless to turn off the gas.
ASSAULT CHARGE. DANNEYIRKE, Nov. 6
James Humphreys, a builder, who a week ago assaulted a constable at the police station, whither he had gone to complain that women and girls were following him about, appeared on remand on a charge of assault, having been under medical observation. He refused to plead and maintained a stony silence throughout the hearing. He was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment, having previously gone to the Napier police station in 1924 and threatened to clean up the station. Fie was then lined £6.
PRIME MINISTER. ELTHAM, Nov. 6,
The Prime Minister and Mrs Coates were accorded a short civic reception this morning, having broken the journey through to larauaki. He gave a brief address at the Municipal Buildings and was very cordially received hv a crowd of over two hundred. afterwards being entertained at morning tea by Mayor Bridger and the Mayoress, memjbers of the local bodies, and prominent citizens. He speaks at Wanganui to-night.
