NEW YORK, Nov. 4, A message from Jesnp, in Georgia, states: —Judge R. Thomas, of the City Court, was shot dead hy Deputy .Sheriff Mad ray following on a knife and pistol duel in the street after the Judge had called the Sheriff an "A! Smith man.” •Both men were Hoover supporters. Madray took exception to Thomas casting aspersions on liis loyalty as a. lit manager for the campaign on 'behalf of Hoover. A fad ray was slashed, although his wounds were not serious. This incident indicates how badly split the Democratic Party is in Southern States, where hitherto Republican sentiment lias never been known to exist. PARTICULARS OP CANDIDATES. (Received this day at 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, November 6. Governor Smith feels “All right” about the outcome of the election on Thursday, but is not making predictions. Two women are included in the 142 candidates to contest thirty-seven Senate seats in thirty-throe States. Four hundred and fifty members of the House will be elected from 9o() candidates, including eighteen women, ■while 12G candidates contest thirtyfour States for governorships. It is estimated that the total popular vote will lie thirty-five million.

A Chicago message states the Hoard of Election Commissions, in order to prevent ballot stuffing and blber untoward incidents at the polls on Tuesday is mobilising fifteen thousand official and volunteer watchers to guard the election.
