Political Modesty. “ 1 want you to look upon me iust as one of yourselves,’ said Mr IT. Holland, Reform candidate for Christchurch North. “T am not infallible. I make mistakes, I am not a brilliant speaker, I am not what you would call a fighting politician. Nevertheless, I get there; I can produce the goods.” Another form of modesty was displayed by Mr EL J. Howard, M.P. for Christchurch -South, who, discussing his party, said: “ AVe were weak on the farming side. AVe had numerous ocu.pationfi represented printers, lawyers, a miner—all sorts of men, including myself, a gentleman.”
