GREAT SOUTH ROAD

CO-OPERATION FROM OTAGO. The Vincent County Council writes as follows to the Westland County

Council

OTAGO-WESTLAND ROAD VIA HAAST PASS. “ I have to advise that your letter dated 10th inst. ill reference to proposed road between Otago and Wostludn via the Haast Pass was duly considered by the Council at the meeting held on 25tli inst. “ The decision of the Council was this Council do all in its power to further the construction of the proposed road and to write to the Hon. the Minister in charge of Tourist' Resorts to that effect, also to suggest that your Council write in like manner.”

The Otago Expansion League writes as follows: —

“ Many thanks for your letter re grant for West Coast road. We are also moving from this end and now that a start has been made we propose to keep up the pressure. The gam to South Westland and Otago will be -Treat and we feel that the opening o such a road will have a deciding influence in bringing tourists down through the Lake Country and greatly increasing their number. “ You can count upon our continued co-operation and assistance.”
