RADIO EXPERIMENTS
ON TEN METRE AY AYE
Australian Press Assn.—United Service
GISBORNE, November 1
The experimental radio telegraphy on ten metre wave length, referred to in the cable this morning, follows experiments conducted successfully during the past fortnight by Ivan O’Meara. Hitherto this low wave has been regarded as of no commercial value, although communication was previously established between France and America and across the American eontintent. Dissatisfied with previous opinions M.r O’Meara embarked on further tests to return 7.30 a.m. New Zealand time. His ten metre signals sent in code were picked up and decoded by amateur station (i llb California. A further step was reached on Ihursday, when, between one and 1.30 p.m. both Mr O’Meara and Robert I’att.v picked up signals from station OXA of the Federal Telegraph Coy. Paulo Alto. California, at good strength. Two-way communication on ten metres was thus established, although not simultaneously. Mr O’Meara, however, has created a record in this quarter ol the globe by maintaining regular two-way communication with an Adelaide amatcui. .Mr O’Meara is continuing his experiments. directing his attention to different times, which he believes have a more important bearing on tin l question than the pole beam rclerrcd to in ihe cable. lie is confident that it will lie only a very short time lie fore a. regular ten metro communication, which will be an epoch in radio telegraphy. will be established.
