AIR ROUTE
ENGLAND TO INDTA

The main stages of the new live thousand miles air route, England to India, have been settled. An Imperial Airways survey party, under Flight Lieutenant 0. Cross, a former Air Ministry flying boat export, who has been appointed Mediterranean manager. is leaving immediately to locate intermediate bases. Air passengers from London will take an aeroplane to Basle, thence the night express through the Alps. Genoa will be reached in twenty-four hours. Here they will embark on a. short Calcutta type of flying boat for two and a half davs journey to Alexandria, calling at Rome. Naples, Greek Islands and probably Gallipoli, thence Crete. Tobruk, following the coast to Alexandria where the Egyptian Government is building a combined marine and land air port. Here passengers will connect with the existing trans-desert section reaching Basra in a day and Karachi in two and a half days, totalling seven days from London. Tt is expected the time will be considerably shortened soon after the services come into operation.
Tt is assumed the Imperial Airways in the near future will extend the middle east route to Singapore, where it will branch into Australian. Chinese and Japanese sections.
