A fire in the City Council’s new powerliot.se at Bunnerong; destroyed a large ijiyaytity off valuable switch gear belonging to the Metropolitan Vickers Ltd. In a. storeroom, Fireman Hayden was entrapped in the corner of the store. AN ARSON CHARGE
MELJIQ URNE, 5 October 31
A large quantity of flax; hemp, and wooh stacked on the Queen’s wharf, close to Queen’s bridge, ::ready for shipment, was burned last night. A man, who is alleged toAiaVe been seen acting suspiciously on the wharf, was arrested and has been charged with arson.
CRANE DRIVERS WAGES. . ■ SYDNEY, Oct. 31
Harbour Bridge crane drivers recently- claimed ■ one pound hourly as wages. The Minister of Works informed' the Assembly that an. agreement was being entered under which jbhe rates vary from 5s 3d to 7s 4-J-d per hour, according to the height at which the men work.
