‘ (From ;Our Own Correspondent! - ■ A very pleasant'function-, took place . las»t Friday evening an the Tofcara Hall, a large assemblage "being pres - ent, when'a social and dance tendered to Mr and Mrs P. C. Mo- * Nabb on the eve of; their departure from'Ross. _ . ‘ - Mr McNabb who has been the local postmaster for the' past four years Is ’’ ; on transfer', to the Wellington Post Office. "' v ' __ ■ \ ' The function consisted of dancing . interspersed with concert items which were contributed by Mesdames Windsor and Bannister, Miss Bridgman and Mr Hall.: ' - ‘ ' ‘ At an interval during the evening .a presentation of a well filled purse was made to Mr and Mrs McNabb. Mr H. Osmers, Deputy Mayor, (ow- ;< ; ing to tho‘indisposition of the Mayor) and in, a eulogistic. . speech referred to the many croodi •qualities of the guests. Mr McNabb. as Postmaster had proved himself an excellent official, ijiis obliging and courteous manner had made him ex- - tremely popular with the whole of the residents of the district, therefore his; departure was much regretted. On behalf of the Picture Management he also desired to thank him for his generous assistance in the orchestra, his services in this was much appreciated. , • Mrs McNabb had also assisted the town in many ways being always willing to give a helping hand in connection with any local functions.-' On behalf of the residents he had much ; pleasure in handing them, a purse of sovereigns with which he suggested they 'might .purchase some suitable article which would remind them of their many Ross friends. He wished ; them long life, happiness and pros*. 1 1 peritjv in their new locale. " * Mr A. Donaldson speaking for the 1 : •various sporting clubs regretted ' the! departure of Mr and Mrs McNabb both of whom had been closely identified with the Cricket, Hockey and Tennis Clubs. He;; endorsed the; remarks of Mr Osmers and. wished them a happy future. Mr 6. H, Chapman, Rev. Father O’Doherty and Rev.
Heyward also spoke eulogising the many good qualities of Mr and Mrs McNabb. Mr McNabb feelingly ' replied thanking the peoplq for their kindness-and; their handsome present. He was glad to know his services had given satisfaction and he. v r as also sorry -to leave Ross where tliey had spent four of the happiest years of their life. The singing of “For They’re are Jolly Good Fellows,” brought this part of the programme to a close. The ladies had provided a very nice supper which was then handed round and much appreciated. ; ; -v 'i■: ty' Miss Belle Evans’ Orchestra of six instruments the music for the evening while Mr It. Richards made a capable M.C.
