FIRE OUTBREAK

TOOHEY’S MOTORS GARAGE / GUTTED.

The firebell rang out an alarm this morning at 4.40 o’clock. The scene of the outbreak was at Toohey’s Motors Ltd garage in the centre of Revel 1 St., between the Dominion Hotel and Mr A. C. Armstrong’s shop. Tlio flames had a big hold pf the structure when the Brigade arrived on the scene in

very quick time. There was a fine water pressure and though the flames were bursting out on the, front and roof of the building, threatening grave danger to the adjoining buildings, it was soon seen that the efforts to confine the fire would he successful, and in a few minutes the flames were well under control, without the other buildings being damaged. ~ When the Brigade arrived at the scone there was a large volume of flame bursting through the front and roof, and there was the promise of the (fire, extending to the buildings on each side, while with the stiff easterly breeze that -was blowing there was a grave danger of the flames crossing the narrow street to the’business premises there. The Bhrough water pressure 'was however at its full strength, and once the first line of hose was brought into play it 'was. soon seen That the efforts of the Brigade would be successful in preventing the fire spreading. The water supply again showed its great value to the town the pressure being excellent. A large crowd gathered in the vicinity until the flames were got under.

The garage and its contents of foui; motor ears and a quantity of spare tyres and other gear was ruined before the fire was got under control. The Brigade did excellent work in preventing damage to the adjoining buildings. '7',
