Infectious and other notifiable diseases reported in the Canterbury and West Coast Health Districts for the week ended noon on Monday totalled as follows :— Canterbury : Scarlet fever, 42; diphtheria, 2; tuberculosis, 8,; pneumonia, 8; pneumonic influenza, 2; puerperal septicaemia, 1; erysipelas, 5; hydatids, 2. West Coast: Scarlet fever, 3; tuberculosis, 1. There were two deaths in Canterbury from Scarlet fever, five Ifrom tuberculosis, and one from pneumonic influenza. There was one death in the West Coast district front tuberculosis.
Returning to his home in Woodham Road, Christchurch, at 6 o’clock on Sunday afternoon; Mr J. Atwood surprised a man in the back garden, engaged in removing clothes from the line. The man 1 made off, leaving a bag and a bicycle behind him. Mr Atwood gave chase, but could- not catch the intruder. Giving up the pursuit, Mr Atwood returned - towards his home, and saw the man making off at high speed on another bicycle. He again gave chase, but was again unsuccessful. The bag left at Mr Attwood’s place contained various articles, including a ham, all of which, the police found, had been stolen. The goods were returned to the owner's, and the bicycle is in the hands of the police.

At All Saints Church to-morrow (All Saints Day) special services will he held to commemorate the 62nd. anniversary of All Saints’ Church.
Rev. Nelson Wright and Mrs Wright returned from Christchurch last evening where the former had been attending a meeting of the Synod.
Mr James O’Brien (Labour candidate for Westland) left to-day for South Westland. He addresses the electors at Waiho to-night, Okarito at 6.80 p.m. and Wat area at 8 p.m. on Thursday, and on Friday visits Tetaho and speaks at Harihari at 8 p.m. /
A burglar visited the shop of Ltd., Mawhera Quay, Gfeymouth, some time in the early,, hours of yesterday morning, admission having been gained through the" door, the Jock of which was later found to have been forced. Mr Thorpy ha s not yet ascertained the full extent of the missing goods, but their value is estimated to lie in the vicinity of £4O. The police are investigating the matter.
Further communications have passed between Mr, T. E. Y. Seddon, the Okuru settlers, and Sir Francis Bell, Minister of Marine, relative to the shortage of provisions in the Southern district, As a solution of the difficulty Mr Seddon requested the Minister to arrange for the Tutanekai to call at Jackson’s Bay and land provisions there as the residents had stated they would pack the goods from the Bay. Mr Seddon has received a telegram from the Minister that arrangements have now been settled for the Tutanekai to call as requested. She is to leave Bluff somewhere about Friday or Saturday next.
At Kumara Mr Seddon was asked by representatives of the Fire Brigade of Kumara as to what supply of water wjas reserved from the Government water race at Kumara, when the Government disposed of the water race to the Westland Power Board. Mr Seddon stated that an amount of water was reserved for the use of the Borough, hut he would ascertain definitely the amount from the Minister of Mines. Mr Seddon to-day despatched the following telegram:—Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Wellington: “Re Kumara water race. W*U you. please let me know what supply of water is reserved from old water race disposed by Mines Department, to Westland Power Board for use of Kumara Borough for town supply and Fire Brigade purposes.
