The Simplon Tunnel express from Bucharest collided with another express near Statina. The collision completely wrecked the first-mentioned express, a sleeping car, two first-class coaches, a luggage and a mail van. It is believed there are fifty casualties. Twenty-fjve were sent to the hospital.

The train accident wqs due to the faulty working of points. Thirty-one were, killed, of whom twenty-seven were Rumanians, travelling on a local train, and forty-seven were injured.
