PERJURY ALLEGED
EVIDENCE IN CIVIL CASE,
DOCUMENTS IMPOUNDED

DANNEVIRKE, Oct. 24
There was an unusual development in a case in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. in which two buildors, both ot Dannevirke, were the principals. James Joseph Anderson proceeded against James Humpheys for £62 17s, being the balance alleged to be due in connection with a building contract.
Defendant, in evidence alleged that he had made two payments to Anderson of £SO each, and had obtained receipts for the same. A witness was called who said that Humphreys had asked him to give .evidence on his behalf against Anderson, to say that he had seen Humphreys hand over £SO to Anderson. Witness said that he had tqld Humphreys that it was absolute perjury. He was not going to risk getting six months’ gaol. He had never been a witness of such a transaction.
•His Worship declared that he disbelieved defendant’s evidence. He was most unreliable, and his evidence was most unsavoury. Defendant had committed perjury and his W >r-hip made an order that all docunmivs in i.'ie case be impounded, pen'- tig furtner inquiry. Judgment on ;he claim was given for plaintiff for v -00
