NEW AERO CLUB FORMED.

ASHBURTON, October 25
The formation of a mid-Canterbury Aero Club was decided on at a meeting last evening, the Mayor presiding. Colonel J. Findlay was elected patron, E. Bi. Newton, president, J. R. Richardson captain, A. H. Haden vice-cap-tain, and J. H. Millar secretary. There are one hundred members, including several experienced pilots.

CHRISTCHURCH; Oct. 25
As a result*of the visit of the Southern Cross to Christchurch, £706 has been paid’ to the Citizens Unemployment Fund, being the proceeds of the sale of admission tickets at Sock burn. Subsidies will bring this to £2OOO sterling.
HIT A CONSTABLE
DANNEVIRKE, Oct. 25
A. sequel to a case in which James Humphreys, a builder, was defendant in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, occurred' this morning. When Humphreys and a constable went to the police station yesterday afternoon he complained of being followed by women and children.
While being questioned by police officers he became resentful and asked,. “You wagt to fight?” and landed Constable Hearton a blow on the lefV ear. He was overpowered and arrested and remanded for a week for medical observation-. - •
IN THE AIR. ; i HASTINGS, Oct. 25
Word was received at' Hastings this morning that Mr Douglas Mill, in a Moth plane, will arrive here- at sjx o’cldck this evening. Mill is leaving from Hawera for Wanganui, where, arter a short stay, he will hop off for Hastings. OILFIELDS REPORT. GISBORNE, Oct. 25.
Taranaki Oilfields report: Gisborne No 1 well unable to overcome caving with existing equipment. Endeavouring to pull 61-in. diameter casing and will then suspend opei’ations and transfer crew to Gisborne No 2 'well.
DEADLOCK ENDS
CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 25
The deadlock over the steamer Waikouaiti has ended, the Seamen’s Union having informed the Union Company .that, it is now prepared/ to find a crew. The vessel was tied up on September 20th. However,' the Waikouaiti ’may not be put in commission for some time as the Kawatiri is doling her running.
