St. Martin’s-in-Fields is the. meeting place of (fourteen hundred clergy in London diocese, called at the instance of the Bishop of London, this being the first Synod in the diocese since the Reformation. The Bishop in a threequarters of an hour address, explained that he wanted the clergy’s guidance in connection with the action of the bishops, following Parliament’s rejection of the Prayer Book. They had not assembled as lawbreakers, but in the interests of peace. ' Hev. J. Milne, vicar of St, Chad’s, Hoggerston, stood up and declared the Synod illegal, as implying the right off the bishops to override the Commons decision. Having protested, Re\. Milne withdrew.
