A FIRE. (United Press Association —By Electric Teleg rap h—C'opyr ight). LONDON, October 24. A serious lire is raging at Portumna. The technical school which Princess Mary visited are ablnke and it is feared will spread to the adjoining convent. Portumna was mysteriously cut off tolephouicnlly after the first appeal for the Limerick Brigade’s assistance. The distance is over-great to respond and Athlone garrison brigade was summoned and sot oil' at midnight on a thirty mile journey.
FORTUM A FIRE. LONDON, Oct. 24
Eortuma fire is believed to ho due to the accidental overturning of an oil stove. It was, confined to a rear wing. The estimated damage is a thousand sterling.
ANGTHER BUILDING COLLAPSES.
MALTA, Oet. 23
The remarkable series of collapses of buildings in Europe continues. The roof of a new brewery in Hainrun, in which "workmen were engaged, ■ fell in,. killing two and injuring twentynine.,. A company of the royal enginers is assisting in rescue work. The entire police force is holding back thousands of anxious spectators, including grief-stricken relatives of-mis-sing men. \
BILLIARD, ROOM TRAGEDY. . LONDON, October 25. The wildest scene occurred at Inmans, Manchester; in a billiard saloon. During an argument over a women bookmaker, Joe Fenton, whipped out a pistol and shot dead a hunchback. Alfred Mace/ and injured another man. He then covered the company with an automatic in one hand and a revolver in the other, and “retreated to a car.
•;Fenton found detectives waiting at his home and blew out his brains in the presence off liis wife and children.
HARBOUR' COLLISION. LONDON, October 24
A collision. in the harbour to-night between the, liner Biarwon and .Watson’s Bay ferry resulted in the latter being considerable damaged, but nobody was injured though there were several narrow, escapes. The liner anchored for inspection to-morrow.

Arising from the Horan affair, the Government is prosecuting Denolet Defablanque (cabled on 17th October) on a technical charge of espionage.
ATR AGEDY. < .1 PARIS, October 24
Abruptly leaving a wedding feast at Chalon sur Marne, Ernest Extrude seized his two sons, aged four and two years, and jumped into a river. The trio were drowned. The tragedy is attributed to domestic troubles.
v INDIAN BOMB OUTRAGE. DELHI, Oct. 24. Five were killed and forty were injured by the explosion of a bomb, believed to have been thrown from a roof near a Lahore fort during a procession in-connection with I ,the Ramlila Hindu festival. The outrage occurred at the Masti Gate, where one thousand were assembled. The victims were mostly women and students. A similar outrage was perpetrated at the same spot at the Ramlila Festival two years ago.
MARCONI AND WIRELESS. LONDON, Oct. 24
The Marconi Company is prepared to put into operation immediately a wireless telephonic service from London to Australia, but ; are . awaiting developments in Australia.
ROYAL RESTING PLACE. LONDON, Oct. 24
Five bodies of lesser important Ro>nlties have been removed from the Royal mortuary chapel at Windsor to a specal vault at Frogmore. The King desires room to he found forfeiture emergencies in the chapel, which is already becoming overfull.

The “Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondcyit quotes a fully informed authority that there is not a vestige of truth in Lord Birkenhead’s wireless appointment cabled on 21st. October.
T.U.C. COUNCIL
LONDON, October 24
After tlm T.U.C. General Council had discussed Glading’s dismissal, Secretary Citrine made a statement that the Council had decided to ask the Government for a copy off any orders issued in relation to Communist activities ,and the grounds on which they u:cre based. It was stated the Government: side of the question would receive full consideration. Several members off the Council were strongly of the opinion that avowed Communists had no right to expect to hold State positions.
