TARANAKI OIL

LARGE FLOW EXPECTED

(By Telegraph—Press Association)

NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 19

Oil in considerable quantities will he struck at New Plymouth within about a fortnight, "if the antiepations of the Blenheim Oil Reclamation Coy. are realised.

The Hooding of the bores with water has, since the quest for petroleum commenced in New Plymouth, been an insurmountable difficulty. Now this difficulty in the Blenheim hove has been overcome a Government Mines Engineer having certified that water lias 'leen .shut out satisfactorily. This bore, rears ago, was sunk to nearly 6000 ft. Tt was sune months ago plugged at 2183 feet. and. by a system of plugging at the water strata at seventeen hundred feet, and the forced injection of 8 tons of cement where a new casing ends, at tha t depth, - a cement casing was formed for a considerable distance up outside of the pipe, thus cutting off the water.

It now remains to bore through the plugs and to sink the casing to a depth of 2140 feet to the stratum whence a hundred barrels of ore per day flowed some years ago, and then the Company hope to secure a large flow of oil.
