FORESTRY DELEGATION
AUCKLAND OBSERVATIONS

ROTORUA, October 18
The Forestry Delegation left at 1.30 p.m. for Auckland. Lord Clinton expressed himself as delighted with what he described as the best national work, and other : members were equally impressed. This morning a session was held' at which an all round discussion took place on exotic timbers, planting and usage. On the work done in New Zealand, every speaker was emphatic as to its excellence. Some members visited Mamaku and inspected Steel’s mill, where operations were in full swing, afterwards going on a bush train six miles to virgin bush, where stationary log haulers were working, lii spite of pouring rain the visit was greatly enjoyed as an educational one. Another party visited Whaka State Nurseries, where they were escorted over the nurseries where seeding was in progress, and two-year-olcl plants were being lifted U'or transportation. Sir Francis Bell and Sir Heaton Rhodes accompanied the party. On their departure the Mayor- and Councillors bade them farewell.
