The Kokatalii Tennis Club’s 'Ball in the Public Hall on 'Wednesday evening suffered somewhat in the attendance, owing to the very inclement weather experienced. There was a very fair attendance in spite of this and the functions passed off successfully and proved very enjoyable. Tlie death of Mr Peter Hansen, of Harihari, took place this morning at the resilience of his . son. Deceased was a native of Denmark, and 75 years of age. [For many' yfears he resided at Woodstock where he was engaged as a carrier. He was a well known figure of Ahe district, honoured by all who knew him, and a sterling colonist. His wife predeceased him before he left Woodstock to take up farming pursuits at Harihari. He leaves a family of three daughters (Miss 'Polly Hansen, at Harihari, Mrs D. A. Roberts, of Evans Creek, and Sister Mary Vincent, of the Convent. Auckland) and three sons (Peter, at Harihari, Edgar, at Waiho, and Richard, at Sydney). Two sons made the great sacrifice in the War.

The body of Frederick Geo. Hoyle, a well-known steward on vessels trading to the West Coast, was found on Tuesday morning, lying in the floating basin at the Westport wharf. Hoyle had been staying at the Royal Hotel, and at about 10 o’clock on the previous evening called at a house on the Vestport beach. An examination of the body was made by Dr Foote, and revealed a fracture of the base of the skull. Whether this was the result of a blow by someone or from a fall from the wharf on to a stringer or some other hard substance, was not known. Deceased had been wearing an overcoat. topcoat, and bat, but all these were missing when the body was found. He was a, native of Ilfracombe, Devon, 32 years of age, and had discharges showing bad he had served as a steward on the s.s. Essex, Tvoniata. Waipahi and Oremiki, most recently on the last-named steamer. An inquest was opened l>v Mr E'. R. Fox. Coroner, when evidence of identification was taken.
