NEW WHALING COMPANY
CAPITAL OF £350,000
BASE AT PORT CHALMERS.
DtNEDIN, Oct. 16
A scheme is being launched for the formation of the New Zealand and Ross Sea AVlialing'Company, with a capital of £350,000, of which £150,000 is to be raised at Home. The scheme provides for a modern factory-ship and five chasers with a double fleet as the returns increase. The prospective purchase of vessels has caused shipowners in England to cable offers. The company proposes to engage Norwegian captains for both the factoryship and chasers, the remainder of the crew to be New Zealanders, and to require that all the members of the crew have their homes at Port Chalmers or Dunedin. AH repair work to the vessels will be carried out at Port Chalmers, where the base will be established.
