CANADIAN LUMBER TRADE

OTTAWA, October 17
A desire by certain lumbering interests in British Columbia to get into the Australian market prompted a delegation from the Coast to interview the .Finance Minister (Mr Robb) on Wednesday. The Minister of Trade and Commerce (Mr Malcolm) will also be present. It is not known what the request will be but it is expected the Australian Treaty will be discussed.
CONFIDENCE MEN. (Received this day at 11.25. a.m.) VANCOUVER, Oct. 16. - A victim of the wallet game, Bryan Lewis, a New Zealand visitor lost 230 dollars to confidence men. He found a wallet containing- valuable papers and returned it to two men. The owners showed their gratitude by introducing a sure thing betting system, which failed. They then tried to persuade Lewis to cable to New Zealand for twelve thousand dollars deposited there. He took the men to the cable office on the pretence of sending the cable and promised to meet them‘later. He then returned with the police, but the men had disappeared.
