LABOUR IN ROTORUA. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) ROTORUA October 15. Mr A, G. Clin stop her, the official Labour candidate for Rotorua, opened liis camapign at Alamuku. October 16. fu an address to the electors yesterday, Mr J. A . Flesher, Reform candidate for Kaiapoi, said that what was most urgent was taxation reduction on sound lines. Regarding land tiix, a man should be taxed on what lie owned, not on wliat lie owed. He should bo taxed to the value of his land alter every penny of registered mortgage had been deducted. “ You won’t find me a servile foilowei of any political party. 1 agree w ith the Reform Party on broad lines, but I will not lie a servile, follower of M r Co tes,’, declared Mr Flesher. He was accorded a vote of thanks. Mr CVS. McCully, a prominent meriw her of the Rugby Union and of the Drainage Board will contest Christchurch South, as a United Party candidate.
MR RANSOM OPENS. DANNEVIRKE, October 16. Mr E. A. Ransom, United Party candidate, paign ijt Onnondville last night. He claimed that there was room in Parliament for a third party, the United Party representing the middle-class as against other extremes as represented l,v Reform and Labour. He adversely criticised Government legislation regarding farmers finance, land settlement and taxation. He claimed on his past service that lie was entitled to he returned. He was accorded a vote of thanks.
