At tlie Alagistratc’s Court, Ross, oil Saturday ATr Alcldrum S.AI. dealt with the. following business:

Two juven'iles were charged with attempting to set fire to, the Church of England on Aug. 20th. There was no damage done. They were reprimanded and discharged. G. 11. Robertson for failing to produce a motor driver’ license, when requested to do .so- by the Traffic Inspector Air A. 3. Sloss, was fined 20s with costs. Twelve Alatainni residents wove charged with allowing cattle to wander. Each was lined 5s with costs. George Nissan and Frank Butler were Charged with using the Public Hall, at, Alatainni as a common gaming house, in that they conducted euchre tournaments therein. Defendants admitted using the hall for euchre tournaments in aid of the hall funds, .when they charged for admission and awarded prizes. They were each fined 10s with costs. In the civil cases .7. J. Hcveldt- v. A. ATnson, judgment for plaintiff for the sum of £3 2s 3d. Commissioner of Taxes v. William Fraser, judgment for plaintiff for £3 Is 3d.

GREY.MOUTH, October 16. ’ At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday AVillinm Henry Gieseking, licensee of the Brian Horn Hotel, Greymouth, was charged with employing John O’Malley, while under the age of 21, in the bar of licensed - premises. O’AlaUey was charged with aiding and abetting Gieseking. in the .commission of the offence. Mr Hannan .stated that O’Afallev’s father was a hotelkeeper, and defend (•int had previously worked in the. bgr ..for him. Gieseking- applied in. .Christ-. Vlurch for a. barman, and O(ATalley s-t cured the; job, saying that ho was. over 21. He had every appearance, ,pf luring over that age. The Alp gist rate said that the law was? absolute in regard to such matter* There was nothing in the Act as to a man appearing to ho over the age o' 21. Defendants would each be fined £l, with costs 10s. ~ EmD Samuel Aide, licensee of the Otira G orge Hotel, was fined £2 with 10s costs, for unlawfully selling liquor on Sand ly, September 23rd. Frances Yde (wide of the licensee) was fined £1 with ci'S-t,s, for unlawfully supplying liquor on the same date.. Charged with selling a firearm (a os airg-un) to ,a person under the age of 16 years, AV after Grey Scott was fined os, with . cords amounting to £2 Is. Tlie case was previously .adjourned in order to secure proof of tjie boy’s age. A birth certificate , produced hy the mother of the boy _ disclosed that he was 14 years of age. . •
