THE PRESIDENT’S REVIEW. (By Telegraph—Press Avssociation). WELLINGTON, Oct. 12. Addressing a Conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, ..the retiring President, Mr McGowan, said they were met under happier trading conditions than a year ago. He mentioned there was an improved trade (balance for eight months ended of £14,182,641 against £6,677,322 for the game l period last year, and the' additional purchasing power should mean increased activity in business circles. Mr McGowan recommended the secondary industries to the consideration of the country. He commented on the happy augury for peace in industry as reflected in the Industrial Conference, etc. ■ He stressed that the lesson should be learned from periods of adr versity and that reserves should he laid 1 aside in times of prosperity. He also dealt with the problem of transition in the methods of transport, which called for the highest statesmanship.
