AER OPLANES COLL IDE. ■p FIVE FATALITIES. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). NEW YORK, Oct. 7. At Detroit live persons were killed late on Sunday, when two aeroplanes collided. Three were men and two were women. SPEED OF 298 MILES AN HOUR. LONDON, Oct. 7. Flight Lieutenant Greig, whose previous attempt was cabled on October Ist. has had another trial, and he easily attained a speed of 298 miles per hour though he only was up for half an hour. Sir Thomas Glasgow, the Minister of Defence for Australia, is a passenger on the “Niagara.” Referring to the report by iSir John Salinond that the Australian Air Force was useless' for war. owing to obsolete machines, an absence of reserve equipment and a, low standard of training, he said the Australian Government has already given instructions for the replacement of the machines in use. He added: “We fully recognise the importance oi aviation as far as Australia is concerned. and Australia’s intention is to have her Air Force thoroughly efficient in every respect.”
