KILLED BY GUNMAN. MAN IN SYDNEY STREET. (Australian Pi ass Association). (United Service). SYDNEY, October 7. The gang warfare in Sydney, which has been quiescent for several months, was renewed last night, when a gunman stepped out of a taxi and shot down a pedestrian at the corner of Eoveaux and Terry streets, in Surrey Mills. The victim was William Dillon, aged 5(5 years, who was sent to the hospital with two bullet wounds. The doctors hope that he will recover. The police arc searching for the taxi. Apparently apart from the occupants of the cab, only one eye-witness was present. He was a business man named Carrington, who was walking along Eoveaux Street. He was actually between the gun and Dillon before the shots were fired. A man with his head bandaged sprang (from tlie car, and walked towards Carrington. As the latter moved aside, the man said: “Now, I’ve got you!” A shot rang out. Dillon, who was behind Carrington, sagged to the ground, and a second shot was fired as he fell. The gunmen then re-entered the car, which sped away into Elizabeth Street. All passed in a few seconds. Carrington turned to aid the inured man, who was bleeding from the mouth and chest, and the assailant was gone.
