WILKINS’ EXPEDITION

ATTEMPT TO BEAT BYRD. (United Press Association—'Ey Electric Telegr a ph—Copy r i gh P. NEW YORK, Oct. 5. A message from Orange, New Jersey, reports that Sir Goo. Wilkins, in a letter to a local stamp collector, indicated chat he would attempt to boat Byrd across the South Pole. “T will, so far as I can see, and unless accidents happen, be the first to fly tlie Antarctic, and the first and only one to fly across the South Pole, this or next year.” The collector is paying Wilkins 15,OCO dollars to carry 1.50 letters addressed to him across the South Pole. The letters will he stamped Port Stanley, Falkland Islands, and then will be taken to Deception Island by Wilkins, and thence across the South Pole and probably to Bay of Whales.
