Of the 5 total amount, £1,958.000 was taken, out of the Bank of England, while. £1,000.000 which was bought in the open market represented the weekly arrival 'of gold, from the Transvaal mines.

| THE NEW ZEPPELIN. BRITISH INTEREST IN FLIGHT. RUGBY, Oct. 3. Great interest was taken in the flight over the east coast of England last night of the new 'Zeppelin type airship LZl27', which in the course of its trials made a cruise over the North Sea. The saloon and navigation lights of the airship were clearly visible as it parsed over Lowestoft and Yarmouth. The success of the cruise is of special interest to British air experts, in view of the advanced stage which the two big airships under construction here have now reached. They will lie the largest airships in the world and their pilots and navigators have for mouths past been engaged in studying the problems of handling the vast vessels. _ ... _ During an earlier trial ol the, L/,127, on the invitation of the German authorities responsible for the building o the ship at Lake Constance, two eminent British airmen, with wide experience of airships, were among its passengers. They were Major ftcott and Squadron-Leader Booth.
