HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE
MONDAY, OCTOBER. Ist., 1928; • The Committee met at 7. p.m. Present :—Messrs A. C. Armstrong, (chairman), H. Sweney, J. Ooulson, W. E. Richards, J. Conning (bon. sec.), and Mesdames J.'H. Wilson and 0. Perry.
Apologies were made for Messrs Shannon and Pedder. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved.
INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Canterbury Education Board, forwarding report of inspection by Inspector Irwin.—Received and considered very satisfactory. From same, notifying acceptance of resignation of Miss Lynn.-—Received. From same in reference to accident insurance .of casual working staff, which is covered by the Board.—Received. i Accounts as scheduled--dwbre passed for payment. ’ ' The Visiting Committee (Mrs Wilson) reported on some, small requirer ments.- —Received. A vote of thanks was passed to Airs Wilson for her attention in regard to the to the teachers’ room. The Rector (Mr E. Partridge) reported the quarter’s attendance averaged, primary 272.6, secondary 93, and roll number 310 and 98 respectively. Airs Dale, who had been absent owing to illness since the vacation was expected to resume to-morrow; and Airs Barlow had been relieving. Miss Lynn had severed her connection with the school after 3£ years, leaving on Friday, having rendered splendid service. Miss Brown was to act as relieving teacher till the end of the year. The School Fair had proved very successful in spite of the unpromising weather and.had resulted in £74 Is being collected. The senior boys had paid a visit to the hatchery at Lake Kanieri at the invitation of the Acclimatisation Society and thanks were due to Mr Armstrong who had taken charge ft the scholars. The visit of the scholars to Ashburton had taken place and had proved very successful and enjoyable. A number of small requirements and
repairs were necessary to doors and locks. The inspector’s report on the school was very satisfactory.—Received. The Chairman congratulated the
rector and the staff on the excellent results of the school fair and a vote of thanks was passed. It was resolved to secure the services of a carpenter to carry out the repairs required, the Rector to point out the several works required. It was resolved to secure a report on the requirements of the wash-hand basins, which were not functioning properly. The dental officer reported during August there were 96 attendances, and 70 patients treated, including Upper and Lower Kokatahi 22, Koiterangi 18, Humphreys and Blue Spur 23, Goldsborough 6. —Received. The Committee rose at 7.35 p.m.
