The track was excellent, and the attendance totalled 75,000. The Derby provded an exciting contest. Moilison, hitherto unbeaten, was in a prominent position throughout, but he failed in the last few strides to stall off Prince Humphrey. Amounts, who was a popular fancy, won his second Epsom Handicap brilliantly, finishing from the/rear of the field.

At the half mile the New Zealander joined Fourth Hand, (being well clear of Winalot. Turning into the straight, Limerick showed the way to Winalot, which however, joined the New Zealander at the distance, the pair thereafter rac ing stride for stride, and reaching the nost four lengths ahead of Valamita.
