;By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) INQUEST VERDICT. . PALMERSTON N., Sept. 26. A verdict that Louis ,Claude. Mitchell of Palmerston North, died from hae morrhage and laceration of the brain following a fractured skull, as the outcome of a car being struck ,by a* train at a level crossing. near Hunterville, was returned by the Coroner at an inquest’ this morning. The Coroner commented on the ever-present necessity of vigilance on the part of a driver approaching all crossings, whether considered dangerous or otherwise. He added that many motorists had yet to learn how essential it was to- slacken speed and to make a proper observation before crossing. The driver of the train evidenced seeing the car approaching- the crossing at a slow speed, the driver giving every indication of •stopping, hut he continued on till struck by the train, although the brake was applied. The depositions of deceased, taken at, the hosptial, stated he didn’t see the train and couldn’t understand how lie failed to see it.
