COAL PROBLEM, kustralian Press Assn.—United Service SYDNEY, Sept. 25. A conference to-day of all the Unions engaged in the coal mining industry to consider proposals by Mr Bavin. Premier of New South Wales, to re-establish the coal industry on a general profitable basis, unanimously rejected Mr Bavin’s suggestions. The conference appointed a committee to make counter proposals. The report of the. conference will he presented to the Federal Council of the Miners’ Federation. I
STRIKERS TO RESUME. . RESULT OF SECRET BALLOT. (Received this day at noon.) BRISBANE, Sept. 26. There has been a sudden development in the waterside situation the strikers having decided, by a secret bqjllot, to resume work. Meanwhile over a thousand volunteers are employed on the wharves under police protection. ' Work is proceeding smoothly at Cairns and Townsville. A large section of the volunteers resolved to form their own union to work under the Beeby. award*-
