Vancouver, on Saturday, Austin defeated Geoff Peers 3—6, 6—o, 6—o. Higgs defeated T. Ryall 6—2, 6—l, Gregory and Collins defeated George and Dixon Peers 7—5, 6—2.. Higgs and Austin defeated A. Milne and Ryall 6—o, 6—l. Gregory and Triggs defeated Austin and Collins, one set, 6-2. CHICAGO, Sept. 23. The Australians played sterling tennis to defeat Mangin and Venryn. The former’s repertoire shots and whirlwind manner of attack, coupled with Van Ryn’s application of speed to all his stroking, seemed at first to work to the disadvantage of the Australians, but' Crawford’s unhurried game with its deadly accuracy and constant recoveries of impossible' shots wore the Americans down. The Australians handled the service defensively, but with one hall in play they outsteadied and out volleyed their opponents, earning the decisive points with passing shots that found the corners of the court,

Hopman’s defeat of Mangin was unexpected, hut the American’s errors cost, him the match, his rival outsteadying him throughout the match. Van Ryn’s easy victory over Crawford was disappointing in the light of the Australian’s outstanding defeat of the same opponent in the National Singles. The strength of Van Ryn’s stroking and the Australian’s patchy play were responsible. Tomorow in the final of the singles, Crawford meets Lott; Hopman meets Hennessey. In the doubles, Lott and Hennessey are against Crawford and Hopman.

CHICAGO, Sept. 22. Vanryn defeated Crawford 6—3, 6—3; Hopman defeated Mangin 6—l, 6—4.
